Shingle Mountains

Named for an shingle-like rock formation common in these mountains, the Shingle Mountains render it extremely difficult to reach Portsmouth, Toswald’s capital, from the east. This has saved the country from more than one invasion, although the occasional massive avalanche forces some significant rebuilding every few decades.
