| 2 | 1 Mile | 1 scene | … and across/through lightly wooded ground, grassy plain, or stream/creek (15" wide at point of crossing) |
| 3 | 5 Miles | 1 hour | … and across/through, heavily wooded ground, sand/desert, small rivers (100' or less wide at point of crossing) |
| 4 | 25 Miles | 1 shift | … and across/through paved or cobbled road, rocks, large rivers (2000' wide) or lakes/ocean (up or out to 1000') |
| 5 | 125 Miles | Until Sleep | Caster gains a complete picture of the whole of the current set of tracks, as it crosses all above obstacles. |
Spell Components
- A piece of a map (at least 5” x 5”) is rolled up into a tube and used like a spyglass or earhorn. Consumed magically.
Limitations and Notes:
- "Set of Prints" is defined as: The tracks (footprints, handprints, kneeprints, etc.) left by the quarry in a 24 hour period, sunrise to sunrise. Only one day's tracks can be plotted. This means that if there are more than one day's worth of tracks, the same set may be picked up later on.
- Each casting of the spell detects the tracks of only one person.
- The caster can easily see parts of the ground or area that her quarry has touched (if the caster is within visual range of them), but she does not instantly know to where the tracks lead, nor can she perceive areas she would not normally be able to perceive with the aid of this spell.
- If the quarry is moving without touching the ground, the spell does not help track him, so using a boat or a flying eagle will render this spell moot. However, underwater prints are detectable.
(To be deleted once Justin reads it:
Justin, I think what this spell does is it highlights tracks (footprints, handprints, kneeprints, etc) in the mind of the caster. It seems too omnipotent to let it track people when whey aren't touching anything, otherwise you can literally track anyone anywhere, and that would be a major impediment to storytelling. Also, you don't know where the tracks go automatically. You have to follow them in your mind. :) )
