Plussed ItemsPlussed Items
In some games, certain kinds of items have special significance because they're particularly capable of achieving their function. Such an item is said to be "plussed, " "really keen," or sometimes "groovy." Plussed items add to the number of dice you can roll to accomplish the goal for which they're intended. In some worlds, an item has to be considered supernatural to be really keen. Plussed items are distinguished from +1, +2, +3 items and the like in that the word "plus" is written in words rather than in numerals and in that the "plus" in question modifies the Attribute (by adding extra dice) rather than a Skill.
GMs should be very careful about handing out plussed items, because they are really pretty cool and thus can be a bit unbalancing. As a rule, characters can't use two plussed items to grant a cumulative bonus.
Plussed Items in GygaxiaPlussed items in Gygaxia are always written as “pluswhun,” “plustwo,” “plusthree,” “plusfour,” and are typically magical in nature. Plussed items are not generally available in stores and vary in value depending on the item (hence they are not listed on the equipment lists), but expect to pay hundreds of geepee for a pluswhun item of normal utility (such as a weapon), and probably thousands for a plustoo.
