Mela Roundbottom

Mela Roundbottom, who grew up in the slums of Hinkerville, is the mother of seven hobbit children. She is generally suspicious of humans, from whom she has come to expect racist behavior, but is strangely fond of Supple Gans, who refers to her as "mother." Mela is overweight and matronly in appearance. She is somewhat traditionally motherly; she is also concrete and very hardworking.

Mela has nine daughters and eight sons. Merri Roundbottom is the eldest.
