Damage Scapegoat
| Drain | -2 |
| Cost | x1 |
| Range | See below |
| Duration | Permanent |
This spell creates a spherical safe zone within which nothing can be damaged. It does this by designating some object as a "scapegoat." Any damage done to anyone or anything within the spell's area of effect will automatically transfer to the scapegoat object, affecting it instead of the intended person or thing. The effect lasts until the scapegoat object is deemed destroyed, so there is no necessary limit to the duration of the spell; if no damage is inflicted within the affected area, the effect could theoretically persist for years or centuries. Note that the scapegoat chosen can only be as sturdy as the spell results allow (where sturdiness is defined in terms of how many degrees of damage it will take to destroy the object).
Degree Matrix
| Degrees | Range | Sturdiness Limit of "Scapegoat" |
| 1 | 10' radius | 2 degrees (large book) |
| 2 | 20' radius | 4 degrees (barrel) |
| 3 | 40' radius | 6 degrees (small tree) |
| 4 | 80' radius | 8 degrees (horse-drawn cart) |
| 5 | 160' radius | 10 degrees (hut or other small building) |
Spell Components
- There must be some object present to serve as the scapegoat.
Limitations and Notes:
- Only one casting of Damage Scapegoat can affect a given object or a given area at one time.
- The affected area is centered on the caster's location at the time of casting.
- The scapegoat object must be located within the affected area.
- The scapegoat object cannot be a living thing, and it is considered an illegal abuse of this spell to designate as the scapegoat any object that you specifically want to destroy.
