Though metaphorically related to leprechauns, cluricans have no direct genetic link to the better-known mix of dwarven and elvish blood save their elvish heritage. Clurichans are in fact the children of elves and halflings. Like leprechauns, clurichans are short, beardless, slightly stumpy, and exhibit a fondness for the color green. Unlike leprechauns, they tend to be slightly chubby, particularly in the face. They are prone to smoking all sorts of different kinds of weeds in their pipes (known to them as dudeens), and possess a nearly constant playful (or even maniacal) gleam in their eyes. This is perhaps because clurichans inherit the halfling fondness for domestics through an elven filter of lightheartedness. The result of this is that clurichans take a kind of wicked glee in doing almost everything, including mundane behaviors like washing the dishes or going to the lavatory. Even the dullest among them seem unusually delighted a good deal of the time, and often for no apparent reason.

Clurichans are sometimes called "erklings" based on a perception of them as irritatingly mischievous. As a rule this is not an especially accurate stereotype, based as it is almost entirely on their perpetual grins, but neither is it altogether inaccurate. Clurichans inherit the sneakier side of halfling behavior as well as the fondness for the comfortable, and many cluricans make good livings as thieves. Their elvish mirth makes them quite happy to steal when the desire arises, and their elvish forthrightness means they don't feel the need to hide it. Many are as proud to be burglars as they would be to be members of a better-regarded professions. Still, most clurichans lead more “respectable” lives as society defines the term.
