Buring

Buring is a village just south of Lake Placid. It exists almost entirely because the people who write travelogues inevitably assume that Lake Placid is an ironic name, and that the actual lake is extremely dangerous. In fact this is not the case, but due to all the hype, the village experiences enough tourism to keep it economy going. The most interesting thing the village has ever had to deal with was some disappearing cattle. This had initially seemed to be the work of outlanders, and later seemed to be related to giant crocodiles, but later was established to be routine cattle rustlers.
